A week after the sightless audition of “The Voice of the Philippines” covered up, Francisco “Bamboo” Mañalac confessed that he did not anticipate being a trainer on the telent show to be that challenging.
Having his seat converted returning from the participants, Mañalac said he had to pay attention properly to choose who he desired to are part of his group. But enjoying over a variety of participants for four successive times created it challenging for him.
“Ang masakit 'yung hindi ka nag-turn tapos maybe later on, dadaan na 'yung few singers tapos iisipin mo ‘Dapat tinamaan ko na yung button ko [kanina].’ Ang hirap talaga to be sitting in our chair. Ang hirap ng posisyon namin talaga,” he said.
Aside from Mañalac, also seated as trainers are Tony award winner Lea Salonga, singer-actress Sarah Geronimo and Apl.de.ap of the Blacked Eyed Peas.
“Ang daming mga aspiring singers diyan na magagaling naman pero ang mapipili mo lang a certain number for your team so most of the time you are saying no. Iyon ang mahirap pala, iyon ang hindi ko naisip. Akala ko madali na it’s going to be fun but at some point medyo mahirap,” he said.
Despite this, Mañalac said he is grateful to develop a relationship with Salonga, Geronimo and Apl.de.ap.
“’Yung chemistry namin after day one was pretty good, nagsasama-sama na kami, nag-uusap-usap na kami. Nature ng game [magka-disagreements] pero wala namang bitter, wala namang away. It was all very productive. ‘Yung disagreements, iyon nga ang masaya,” he said.
Mañalac said he is extremely pleased to be part of “The Voice of the Philippines,” saying it is about paying it forward.”
“Kasi ako umabot ako sa point na ito by a lot of hard work pero suwerte din ako na nakapasok ako sa business na ito. A door was opened for me and I ran away with it so itong opportunity ng isang singer on one of our teams, to sort of take it to another level, to change their life, iyon ang maganda na sana mangyari,” he said.
“Ang hinahanap ko an artist, someone na kapag narinig ko ang boses at nakapikit ako, alam ko recording artist sila dito. Bagong recording artist na game changer. Sana with the proper coaching, madala namin sila kung saan-saan,” he added.
"The Voice of the Philippines" is set to air on ABS-CBN this June and it will be hosted by superstar siblings Toni and Alex Gonzaga, and former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate Robi Domingo.
